About the Bowls Club

We are a small group of Christchurch Irish Society members who belong to the Indoor Bowling Club and on our club night we play in the Club Rooms at Domain Terrace, Spreydon.

Club night is Monday night, from 7pm until around 9.30pm, and our season runs from the beginning of March till end of September each year.

We play under the umbrella of the Irish Society so we are able to keep our Annual subscription at $5 with $2 green fees per night and we also run a small raffle.

During the year we hold championship games of Fours Triples, Pairs and Mixed pairs. At the end of the season we hold our prize-giving and the winners of these championships are presented with trophies and go on to represent us in the Canterbury Catholic Champion of Champions. We are affiliated to the CCIBA and play in their tournaments during the season.

We have other clubs from around the country visit us and we also travel (usually to Ashburton), for ’Home and Away’ games. These are great days out and a good time to catch up with old friends.

Once a year on a Sunday, we hold a fundraising tournament, when we invite other clubs to participate. Usually a very social time with great afternoon tea and lots of raffles.

We are a very social lot with lots of laughs and banter on a Monday night and welcome new comers. Don’t worry if you haven’t played before as there is always someone willing to show you the ropes.
