🎄Merry Christmas🎄
On behalf of the Executive of the Christchurch Irish Club, I wish to extend our Christmas wishes to you, your whanau and friends. Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2024.
We take time to remember all members who have passed during the year, May they Rest in Peace.
We have had a busy 2023, our 75th Year, with plenty of events held throughout the year. We thank those who have supported these events and are looking forward to seeing you all in 2024. I would like to acknowledge the work of Sara Farmer, our Community Liaison Officer, who has brought a new vision to the Christchurch Irish Club.
I also wish to thank the Executive for their hard work during the year, a lot goes unseen from time to time.
For those of our members who are travelling at this time - safe travels and enjoy your time with family and friends. Take time to relax and unwind, enjoying the smaller things in life.
We look forward to your on-going support in 2024. We have another year of events to run, keep an eye on our new website and emails will communicate our events.
In the meantime, I hope you have a special Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you in 2024.
Nollaig Shona duit.
Kind Regards,
Kieran McErlain
President
Thank You to all who attended our Kid's Christmas Party on Sunday 3rd December.
A very special Thank You to everyone who helped out and volunteered their time to make sure that this was a fun and enjoyable day for all. We can not do this without you, and we really appreciate your time and effort.
It was absolutely roasting and I'm sure some went away a bit sun-kissed. There were a few buckets of water thrown on the bouncy castles throughout the day to keep the kids cool, and many Ice creams devoured. A very fun Santa made an appearance with books for all the children, which they loved! We ended the party with a lollie scramble so the kids could go home on a sugar high, of course. It was a fun, relaxed day and we hope everyone who came along enjoyed themselves.
Roll-Up UPDATE:
Kieran and Delwyn have come down with Covid but fortunately, and thankfully, Chef Mark McCracken has stepped forward to run Roll-Up this Friday 1st December.
Thank You Mark for putting your hand up to do this, we really appreciate you!
Thank you to everyone who has come along to Roll-Up during the year, we have thoroughly enjoyed your company.
The last Roll-Up of 2023 will be Dec 15th.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Some of our past events of 2023
We have also held Mid-Winter Christmas Dinner, Mothers and Fathers Day craft mornings, The Canterbury Rose of Tralee, In honour of Christy Dignam and Sinead O'Connor, Halloween and The Rugby World Cup games on the big screen.
Along with some of our more prestigious events such as hosting the launch of the te reo Maori translation of Brian Friel's 'Translations' which, Charlie McConalogue, The Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Marine from Ireland, and the Irish Ambassador, Jane Connolly, attended.
We also celebrated our 75th Anniversary this year, so a big year for us!
The new website for the Christchurch Irish Society has been launched
During his journey back to Ireland, Denis O'Regan made history as this is the first website he has launched whilst flying. It was while he was visiting his grandchildren and son Brendan he was brought along as a guest to the club rugby breakfasts.
Denis worked aboard the enormous Emirates Airbus A380 during the second 14-hour leg from Sydney to Dubai. After Eoghan O'Sullivan changed the required settings Denis completed the smooth transition seamlessly replacing the previous website with the new one whilst connected to the aircraft's Internet connection.
One of the smart functions of the website is that new articles featured on the home page will automatically be emailed to society members.
